Planning Considerations

The process of configuring Office 365 to work with ZixGateway is very simple and takes your Office 365 administrator about 10 minutes to set up. For planning purposes, it can take just a few minutes to make the DNS changes needed. Add a TXT record to prove you own the domain and we will send you the mail relay IP to route your outbound email to. That’s It!!

We are Microsoft partners and well versed in Office 365 so if you would like us to set up your send connector, mail flow rules and whitelist the ZixGateway server, we are happy to set this up for you. You will just need to temporarily grant us administrative access to your Office 365 account.

Make sure you are using an Office 365 plan that exposes the Exchange administrative console so you can route your outbound mail securely to a smart host. Both Exchange Online Plan 1 and Plan 2 support ZixGateway integration as do most Office 365 plans with email. GoDaddy’s syndicated version of Office 365 may not expose the features needed in the exchange admin console.

Purchasing ZixGateway

It is recommended purchasing a license for all senders in your organization however, it is also possible to encrypt just a subset of users and configure conditional transport rules in Office 365. ( read How do I create conditional transport rules in Office 365? ) This will obviously save you on licensing costs.

The good news is that once you have set up the ZixGateway, all new Office 365 users will have automatically have encryption as no further configuration is needed.

What you need:

There are a wide range of deployment scenarios that can be accommodated in an integrated solution. In the majority of cases, the primary integration tasks are:

1. Configure an Outbound Connector from Office 365 to the ZixGateway instance using Microsoft’s Exchange Admin Center.
2. Add an TXT Record to prove ownership of your domain. We will send you the value when your order is received. Provide us with your public IP of your mail server so we can accept mail from it. Modify your SPF record to include the zix gateway relay servers
3. Configure ZixGateway to accept mail relayed from the Office 365 subnets using Zix administration interfaces.

The ZixCorp deployment coordinator will assist you in the implementation and confirm the settings are correct.
